Welcome to the Website of the Grand Orient of Ireland, the adogmatic reformed and liberal Masonic Grand Lodge of Ireland
The Grand Orient of Ireland is an organization, which is motivated by two great principles: the respect for a tradition inherited from the founders of freemasonry and enlightenment and the search for progress for the improvement of Men and Society.
Conservative Irish Freemasonry, as it is practised nowadays, developed in isolation without any fertilisation from continental constitutions or countries and without the will for reform. It deteriorated over the centuries into a “barricade of wagons” for a small group of members, who are mainly led by religious motives, by excluding other circles and hampering innovation, reform and progress in Freemasonry and society.
This is contrary to the Masonic philosophy practised worldwide because it divides people and does not unite them.
Our lodges are open, liberal and adogmatic. The biggest stumbling stone is the close connection to the Orange Order. Masons under the Grand Lodge of Ireland are allowed to be members in the Orange Order, which is practising an attitude in contrast to the brotherhood, tolerance and freedom of thinking practised by Masons worldwide.
This is the reason why there is no other alternative than
the Grand Masonic Orient of Ireland
